Privacy policy

Dog Share NYC helps New Yorkers find someone to share the care of a dog. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you control it.

What we collect

• Account: your email address and a password, stored only as a secure hash (or the private relay address Apple gives us if you use Sign in with Apple).
• Profile: what you choose to add, such as your first name, bio, neighborhood, schedule, budget, photos, and your dog's details.
• Activity: who you like, your matches, messages, shared calendars, agreements, checklists, reports and blocks.
• Approximate location: your chosen neighborhood and a map point randomly moved 400 to 800 m from it. If you tap "Use my location", your exact position is used on your phone only to pick the neighborhood and is never sent or stored.

We do not store your precise location, contacts, or payment details. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. There is no third-party tracking or analytics in the app.

Who can see what

• Signed-in members can see your public profile and dog profile, unless you block them.
• Only you and your match can see your messages and shared plans.
• Likes are private. People only learn you liked them if they like you back.
• Our moderators can see reported content to keep the community safe.

ID verification

To get a Verified badge, you verify your identity with our verification partner Didit (didit.me), using a photo of a government ID and a selfie. Didit processes those images under its own privacy policy. Verification is required before your first handoff with a dog share partner. We never receive or store your ID images or document details. We only store your verification status (for example verified or not), the date, and a Didit session reference.

Where it is stored

Data is stored with our infrastructure provider, Supabase, on servers in the United States, encrypted in transit. Access is restricted by row level security rules. If you use the app without an account, data stays on your device only.

Your choices

• Edit your profile at any time in the Profile tab.
• Delete your account in Profile, then "Delete my account and data". This permanently deletes your profile, dog, photos, likes, matches, messages and plans right away. Reports you filed about others may be kept in anonymous form to protect the community.

Children

Dog Share NYC is for adults 18 and over.
